Perhaps this conceit and tonal shift would have worked better for PLL if the Liars trials and tribulations in the dollhouse werent intercut with the Lawyers Hastings and Team Dudes efforts to find their Liar loved ones Flashing back to normal Rosewood life and such a nonsensical search for the Liars took away from the claustrophobia of the dollhouse. Sure, she plays along for the cameras, but shes been secretly mapping out As subterranean lair since Day One. Shes not done playing the game. Its also crazy to think how far Monas relationship with the Liars has come. This has resulted in some kind of, if not friendship, then camaraderie between the Liars and their former nemesis. All the points for the HannaMona friendship moment when Hanan gives her former bestie a hug and lets her know that shes happy shes not dead. If youre going to try to sell us on the dollhouse, PLL, you have to commit. Spencer doesnt waste much time concocting a plan. She looks around the warehouse at what A has given the Liars for prom decorating supplies and quickly comes up with a solution involving a DIY EMP device fashioned to look like a camera because what high schooler or, you know, adult doesnt know how to throw together an EMP in a pinch Never change, Spencer. It says a lot about Spencer and Monas combined brain power that, even when planning a prom that is really a decoy for their attempted escape, they manage to throw together a halfway decent soiree. Dont get us wrong, this prom was creepy and awkward and gave us chills down our spines, but that was mostly the manikins faults. Otherwise, the Liars looked fabulous and the decor had this post industrial chic vibe going for it. The playlist could have used some work, though. The Liars put Spencers plan into action. They call out Charles aka A, a name Spencer has pieced together from blocks in the playroom, to take his rightful place as prom king. Also, that wed get more answers about who A is in the here and now rather than about that time he went apple picking with the fam as toddler. The creepiest part of this scene When Charles skulks out of the shadows wearing a face mask, of course to stare into Spencers eyes. She whispers his name. We will him to take off the mask. He does neither, instead disappearing into the shadow all Phantom of the Opera like. Maybe were just fishing for meaning because there is a difference between meaning and answers, and we are more interesting in the former, but it did feel like there was a significance to it being Spencer in this moment. If A is either a Jason or b Jasons secret twin, then that means he is also Spencers half brother. Did she realize this in that moment Is that why her face seemed to show some compassion, as well as fear and of course her ever present and insatiable thirst for the truthDespite Spencers detour, the Liars manage make it out of the underground compound, only to surface in a clearing surrounded by an electric fence.
